IB276. This tall-trunked Yucca to 25' has very long green leaves, though the crown is not as dense as, say, Y. faxoniana. With the possible exception of Y. schottii, it is faster growing than most of the other trunking Yuccas, and is found in colder and moister areas in the wild, though it may also be found in some dry desert-like areas. Like Y. schottii and Y. faxoniana, this species has fleshy fruits. This collection comes from exceptionally large, robust plants at Ho Canyon (no, I didn't make that up…those Texans!), at 5,700' in the Davis Mountains, Texas (isn't everything bigger in Texas?). It ought to be hardy to at least -10°F.
Picturesque, very large yucca with leaves in excess of 4', eventually forming a large shrub or small tree, usually single trunked, to 10' and taller with great age. Mature plants produce white bell flowers on 4' spikes, usually in spring but not every spring. Native from southwestern Texas to the mountains of Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, this represents a particularly blue-leaved form from south of the border. Best with lean soil and good drainage in full sun or very light shade. Drought tolerant but faster growing with occasional summer water. Frost hardy to 0 °F, USDA zone 7.
