Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Clumping glossy green foliage of oblong pointed leaves along tall, bamboo-like stems. Spring and Summer bring bell shaped, whiteish-green blooms. Flowers become purple berries in Autumn, and leaves fade to shades of purple and cream before dormancy. Great for woodlands and shady gardens, and also works well in containers.
Elegant and statuesque, this perennial is reminiscent of bamboo with its graceful upright shoots that emerge in hues of pink, white and light green, rising to 6-8’, aging to dark green in clumps 2-3’ wide with bronzy foliage. Lightly fragrant spring bells unfurl and dangle gracefully, transforming to shiny black fruits by fall. Part shade, consistent moisture and decent soils; evergreen in warmer zones but cutting back in late winter ensures lovely new stems! Dan Hinkley collection.
Larger than D. ‘Night Heron’. Makes an upright perennial for the woodland garden.
This dramatic evergreen perennial was discovered and selected by Dan Hinkley in Sichuan Province, China. Six foot tall, bamboo-like shoots, often with a purple tint, arise in early spring. They quickly unfurl into a multi-branched clump, topped in late spring with creamy white, bell-like flowers. A beautiful plant for the woodland garden, its evergreen nature combined with persistent dark blue berries keeps some interest in the winter shade garden.
This stunning woodlander was found and named by noted plant explorer Dan Hinkley in Sichuan Province, China. Its robust, 8'-10' bamboo-like shoots emerge in shades of pink, white, and green, maturing to deep green. Fragrant branched sprays of creamy-white flowers unfurl like nodding bells with the new growth each spring; flowers are followed by glistening black fruit in fall. It was originally a D. cantoniense cultivar along with Disporum 'Night Heron,' however, Bleddyn Wynn-Jones has identified both of them as D. longistylum. This came to us from Dan when Heronswood was still a cutting edge nursery and we liked our our stock plant so much we couldn't bring ourselves to cut it up. Dawn took a machete to it a few springs ago, and now we have a few to offer, but this thing is not a fast multiplier.
A truly impressive selection of this Chinese species with undisclosed province of origin. It reportedly can grow up to 10 feet high, presumably in a rather fertile soil and protected spot. Sturdy canes are adorned with shiny leaves and bell shaped creamy-
A jolly plant indeed introduced by Heronswood from Japan. This has evergreen foliage springing from new growth that looks to be a bamboo until it leafs out. Small creamy white flowers in early summer and blue-black fruit held well into winter. Cut back old stems in spring. Feed me. Water me.
Creamy yellow bells adorn majestic segmented stems with pointed green leaves. Clumping habit to 3' wide and up to 8' tall.
