Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The Shasta Daisy is a popular hybrid flowering plant that usually produces prolific blooms from early June until frost. The flowers are medium sized, about two inches in diameter, on tall sturdy stems usually about two feet high. Plants have short rhizomes similar to an Iris and form compact clumps. Although they prefer full sun and will flower more heavily with it, these plants are quite shade tolerant and produce blooms in deeper shade than almost any other flowering plant we grow.
Shasta Daisies are very drought tolerant and will grow with very limited water. At our nursery we have a clump in partial shade that only gets water about once per month or less and still looks healthy and blooms during summers of 100+ degrees. These are ideal plants for borders and flower beds, but if you have the space they are fantastic for planting to naturalize in a field of different colored flowers. One of the best uses we've ever seen of Shasta Daisy is in a garden in Northern Oregon where these are planted about ten feet deep against both sides of a three foot wide path winding through a clearing with Japanese Maples on the edges. It creates a wonderful sense of walking through a dense field of flowers in the mountains, and if you have the space we would highly recommend planting in a similar fashion.

This is an easy plant to grow and is one of the better picks for beginning gardeners because of its tolerance for many different growing conditions.

An evergreen perennial, quickly forming dense clumps of toothed, dark green, glossy leaves. From Spring to Autumn slender, erect stems bearing large, solitary, yellow centred, single white daisy flowers are produced. An ideal weed suppresser due to chemicals it produces to inhibit the growth of other plants. Extremely tough.
