Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Oakleaf hydrangea is a slow growing shrub of great beauty and one of the few hydrangeas not native to Asia in this case hailing from the southeastern US. 'Alice' is noted for its large, arching flower panicles and disease-free foliage that offers superior fall colour in purples and reds. The conical white panicles produced in late spring grace the plants all summer and tinge pink as they age. Drought tolerant.
We have Mike Dirr to thank for this vigorous selection. Tall and fast growing, 'Alice' displays large, very delicate, lacy looking white flower heads, and the show continues when the broad green oak-shaped leaves turn deep carmine in autumn. For contrast, try planting an understory of Persicaria 'Red Dragon'. Hardy to zone 5. (S-0323)
All of the cultivars of Oakleaf Hydrangea are attractive because the species itself is so handsome. 'Alice' is particularly fine for its nursery profitability - vigorous growth and robust spreading habit to 12 ft. Long cream-white flower panicles age to pink.
A wonderful seedling from Dr. Michael Dirr. Large creamy white panicle blooms that grow about 10 inches although could be smaller or larger depending on your location and the exposure to sun. Dark green foliage in summer turns deep red in the fall as the panicle blooms age red. Dr. Dirr named this seedling after Alice Richards, a graduate research technician in the University of Georgia's famed horticulture department. This variety has been grown for years and has sparked interest from many nurseries in the southern US so expect this variety to be a favorite for years to come.
A strong-growing 8-10' clone selected by Dr.Michael Dirr for its "elegant dark-green summer foliage, burgundy fall-color" ; lovely 12" upright-to-semi-arching flower clusters. PSh/Med (not dry)
Panicles of white flowers mature to pale pink, fall burgundy-red leaves, cinnamon colored bark. Zones 5-9.
A disease resistant variety of the H. quercifolia that has huge white flower heads, up to 14" in width. There's more: the leaves are a fantastic shade of deep carmine in the fall.

One of the tallest in the range of Oak Leaf cultivars with mature size of 8' x 8' Long flower panicles of creamy white and the leaves provide an excellent fall display.
A vigorous selection that bears abundant cones of white flowers in midsummer. The flowers turn pink with age, and the deep green foliage turns burgundy-red in fall. In the South, plants can grow 12' x 12'. At their cold limit, they may reach just half that size.
Selected by Michael Dirr as a robust and strong grower. The panicles of white flowers can get to 12 inches long. As with all oakleaf hydrangeas the foliage is handsome spring to fall.
