Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A handsome tree with a very picturesque, widely spreading vase shape (to 15't x 25'w)... a unique growth habit among crabapples... which produces fragrant, pink-fading-white spring flowers and 3/8" yellow-red fruit. S/M
A tree of spreading branch habit, its pink flower buds are followed by profuse clusters. First introduced from Central China by E.H. Wilson in 1900, he considered it one of his finest introductions. Yet, it remains difficult to find in a trade still dominated by endless (600+) crab selections. In the wonderful book, Plants that Merit Attention, editor Janet Poor says without hesitation, "Superlative tree, not surpassed by new or hybrid crabapples. It is most picturesque of all, with long-reaching single branches spreading up and out from the trunk; flowers are produced on spurs up and down the entire length of branches. Consistently beautiful every year, delightfully fragrant; strong, sturdy habit and constitution."
