Bergenia 'Rotblum' is a broadleaf evergreen perennial groundcover with green and red foliage. In spring red flowers emerge. Features glossy texture. Grows well with mostly sun - shade and regular - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Does well in rich and well-drained soil.
The common names of "Pigsqueak" belies the beauty and usefulness of Bergenia, a very popular perennial in Europe that's gaining acclaim here as an outstanding foliage plant for year around appeal. 'Rotblum' ('Red Beauty') is an improved selection with beautiful red fall and winter color. Early spring (March - May) flowers are pinky-red, with green leaves that turn shades of red, scarlet and purple. Habit is a creeping, spreading, clumping/rhizomatous ground cover, mostly evergreen. It's useful in the rock garden and suitable for cut flowers.
