Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A superb butterfly nectar plant! Pinkish-purple daisy-like blooms with dark centers to 7" across are born mid-summer to fall. The flowers are held on sturdy stems that are 2-3'H. An outstanding and award winning selection of our native Purple Coneflower! Echinacea or Purple Coneflowers are beautiful and hardy, clump forming fibrous rooted or taprooted North American native perennials that attract butterflies and other pollinators. This is one of the few plants that can compete for the attention that butterflies pay to the Porterweeds or Stachystarpheta species. These 'daisies' are actually a composite flower and are composed of a multitude of ray flowers (the wide normally colorful 'petals' of a 'daisy') and are centered by a 'cone' composed of a multitude of spirally arranged disc flowers. These clump forming perennials will perform well in well drained, normal to clay type soils with average nutrient levels. May flower from late-spring to fall.
