Nursery contributed plant descriptions

An erect shrubby tropical perennial with tall, cone-like spikes of pure white flowers that glow atop the glossy deep green tropical foliage. With their long flowering season and compact habit Jacobinia's are excellent choices for mixed containers or as specimens on a shaded patio. Jacobinia's are considered by many to be root hardy perennials even in zone 8 with protection and a mulch. Provide them with average moisture for best results. We typically see these Justicias growing to 24-36"H but they are known to get as large as 5-7' where winter freezes don't cut them back. Many resources suggest that they will grow in full sun and they may well do fine in northern latitudes during summer but in areas with hot summers they should be grown in light shade.
