Brilliantly gold, the leaves of this spectacular Japanese selection are also more upright and spiky than the species. This luminously bright grass is a real eye-catcher whether planted in masses, in the border or in a container! Foliage is golden in sun and more chartreuse in shady locations. S-PSh/M
Finally! Our favorite Japanese Forest Grass in PURE GOLD!! Light my fire! This fine clumping grass needs at least a half day sun for the best color. Deciduous. Eventually 1' tall and 3' wide. Great choice for that perfect container. This grass has mucho class!
Enjoy a profusion of blooms all summer long with this drought and heat tolerant perennial! Airy masses of soft-pink flowers emerge above the compact green foliage. A wonderful choice to attract butterflies to containers, sunny mixed borders, or rock gardens.
The typical Japanese forest grass is a green plant 12" tall. We have had several variegated forms for years including the fabulous H. macra 'Aureola'. Now comes this beautiful all gold form. The plant still gets 12" tall, but has fully golden narrow grassy leaves. An excellent addition to the woodland garden.
Zn 5. Gleaming yellow foliage. Slow Grower.
Hakonechloa 'All Gold' has completely chartreuse-gold leaves. This cascading foliage resembles falling water which makes it marvelous beside a pond or tumbling out of shade borders. Try combining with darker foliage like burgundy heucheras for a WOW! effect in your shade garden.
Brighter and more upright then other forms, this grass is sure to bring an eye-catching interest to any shady garden spot. While it spreads by runners, it is extremely slow growing and never invasive. Since this is a deciduous grass, it will die back and need to be cut to ground level during the winter.
Mounding, flowing clumps of luminescent golden leaves that shine like blades of sunlight are welcome punctuations in almost any garden. Slower growing than some of the other cultivars. 12" tall x 14" wide. Sorry, grasses and sedges cannot be shipped to California. Minimum temperature: -20°F
I'm a fan of pretty much all forms of Japanese forest grass for their mounding habit, but 'All Gold' is probably my favorite. In shade the bamboo-like leaves are chartreuse; but given some morning son the foliage turns a glowing gold. Hakonechloa prefers rich soils that are well-drained but consistently moist are best. 'All Gold' is a vigorous grower and is a great compliment to ferns, blue or green hostas, and pretty much any color of coral bells. I often see the various forms of Hakonechloa listed as z6 hardy, but they're easily hardy to z5 and possibly to z4 with proper siting.
Illuminated with the clearest, brightest gilded shades imaginable, 'All Gold's broad foliar ribbons are surely the envy of King Midas! This slightly more upright Hakonechloa still exhibits the same fluid ease as our other cultivars, and when set amid Astrantia 'Claret', its golden, cascading blades convey a dazzling vitality in any shady niche.
One of the few true grasses that thrives in shade, maybe getting a wee bit over planted, but this plant has so many virtues it is hard to mind. This is the all gold version (yeah, they got really creative with the cultivar name here...) and is, for some reason, more vigorous than the more common green-and-gold 'Aureola'. Forms a slowly spreading clump that eventually can become a ground cover. Absolutely easy in the shade here, though apparently not very growable in the South. Zone 4
All Gold Hakone Grass has solid golden leaves that virtually glow in the shade. Bamboo-like in appearence but not invasive. All Gold grows slowly into clumps 12-18" tall.

Glowing golden foliage that is a bit more upright in form than the species, this lovely grass makes a wonderful accent in the shady garden or containers.
Foliage is completely yellow, standing upright and spiky. Great container specimen or complement for a blue foliaged companion. When the sun shines on this grass, it glitters with gold. Prefers some shade and grows to 14".

The all yellow version of a garden standard in these parts. Lushly filling up an 18” diameter by midsummer, it can take rather a lot of sun or dark dark shade. Best half sun, with water. Clumping and rather slow to establish, so be patient. I know it's hard.
Solid yellow leaf blades on this excellent Japanese grass. Same habit as the more familiar 'Aureola' with all the leaves bending gently in the same direction and creating graceful hummocks. Deciduous and easy maintenance. Silly us trading pieces of silver for gold.
This gleaming, metallic gold "Forest Grass" holds its brilliant color all summer before turning tan in winter. The leaves are upright, spiky and are awesome in containers! Dan saw this glowing in the morning sun while visiting Suzuki-En in the Kowaguchi area of Japan.
Luminous, metallic gold foliage, without the green stripes of 'Aureola'. It literally glows in a lightly shaded garden. Great with purple-leaved heucheras, and makes a striking underplanting for kalmias and rhododendrons. Grows even more slowly than 'Aureola' and is a bit less hardy. Prefers morning sun and afternoon shade.
