A most beautiful species with very blue leaves, upright and narrowly fluted. Occurs in only scattered locations above 5,000 ft in the Sierra Madre Occidentale in, yes, Durango, Mexico. This form was collected at 8,100 ft - almost directly on the Tropic of Capricorn - from a ridgetop colony amid small oaks, junipers, and pinon pines, very near the southernmost colonies of A. parryi. So far these plants, with good drainage and bright sunlight, have withstood temperatures of about 20 °F, USDA zone 9, and would probably withstand low to mid teens, zone 8, if protected from excess winter wet.
