This is a fast growing hybrid between F. californicum and F. mexicanum that will reach 15-20 feet in height. 'California Glory' has all-season-blooming large golden flowers that are more open in habit and are surrounded by fuzzy 5-lobed palmate leaves. Minimum temperature: 5?F
California Glory' is a fast-growing shrub or small tree which will reach six to ten feet in our area. It is festooned with large yellow hibiscus-like flowers over a long period through spring and summer. Somewhat short-lived, flannel bush should be planted against the south wall of the house or grown in a pot where it can be moved to a frost free or more protected location. A hybrid between F. californicum and F. mexicanum two species that hail from the family that also brings you chocolate!
A fabulously showy hybrid Flannel Bush that quickly grows to 8' x 8'. Needs full, hot sun and well drained soil. Excellent espalier against a hot south wall. Prune after flowering. Do not over water it will kill the bush after 3 years. Large golden yellow flowers, p to 3" wide appear from late April to June. This large evergreen shrub is displayed on the cover of the 40th edition of Sunset Western Garden Book. Cultivars such as this are horticultural selections and hybrids, not part of the native ecology but work beautifully in the garden. Attracts beneficial insects, bees, butterfly & other insect nectar gatherers. A hybrid between Fremontodendron californicum and Fremontodendron mexicanum. This plant was named and introduced by the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in 1962
An upright form when young, growing to 20' tall or more, but becoming mounding with age. Generous?bloomer, over a long period with flowers 3" across, clear yellow above, rusty below and partially cup-shaped. The small leaves are 1-2" across and partially lobed.
Large yellow flowers spring & summer, evergreen. Needs good drainage. Hardy to 10-15 deg F.
This California native will thrive here with well drained soil and southern exposure. The dark green leaves compliment the golden yellow flowers in June and July. Hardy to perhaps 5°F. Only one per customer.
