A new reason for you to grow your own artichokes! Now not only are they drought tolerant, supremely easy to grow (they are giant thistles after all!) tasty & highly architectural, this much sought after new variety bears stand-out, ornamental, violet-red heads! To 3 - 4' tall & across, the primary heads are 4 - 5" across followed by smaller secondary heads 2-3" across. It's best to give your 'chokes some space, lots of sun, even in the Winter. Not fussy about soil but performs best with compost added. Plants grown as annuals will bear in late Summer, but can also be overwintered so that they will bear again in Spring. Artichokes are Winter dormant & can be divided at this time. Deer resistant!
