Dramatic, this 4-5' spire of lavender mid-summer flowers atop attractive whirled foliage is great for back of the border or a garden prairie which it is an almost-native to; deadhead for longer bloom. S/M/GDr PPAF
Easy to grow perennial with towering stems 4-5’ tall topped with grand spikes of tiny tube like lavender flowers with a candelabra arrangement (resembles Veronica on steroids) June to August. Very architectural! Stems are whorled with handsome serrated foliage. Needs full sun, well drained moist to wet soil and attracts butterflies. Plant clumps are 3-4’ wide. This one was love at first sight.
Veronicastrum virginicum 'Lavender Towers' is lovely, tall, back of the border, late-flowering clumper that loves moist feet and good sun. The flowers look like lavender candelabras in the garden. Plants bulk up with time offering large clumps of lavender spires and attractive foliage whorled at regular intervals along the stems. A native from Manitoba east and south to Florida.
Coined Lavender Towers, this imposing Ernest Pagels introduction is aptly named. Straight-up stems garbed in handsome greenery—whorled, sharply toothed and pointed—give way to long branched spikes embellished with lovely pale purple flowers.
A lovely, light lavender form of Culver's Root. The Ernst Pagels introduction is stunning in mass. Best used in the back of a perennial border, in meadow or naturalized gardens. The foliage on Veronicastrums is wonderful -- serrated leaves whorled round the unbranched stems. When we started offering this in 2005 it was all over Europe but unheard of here. It's lovely!
