Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Trillium recurvatum is a somewhat quieter Trillium with blunt, tulip-shaped, maroon-red blooms that are sessile on (sit on top of) the three beautifully mottled leaves. Eastern US. Trillium are exquisite plants for the shade garden blooming in early to mid spring with their elegant flowers. They are spring ephemerals that may go dormant by summer. Keep in mind that they may go dormant early in the year they are first planted and could sulk a bit in their second year before settling in for beautiful displays for years to come.
Small, maroon red, reflexed petals, a very unusual trillium, and almost impossible to misidentify, Prairie Trillium seems to prefer clay floodplain soils or rich woods over limestone. It is easy and long lived in the garden.
Blooms: spring, dark red-brown, sessile/ mottled dark purple-brown foliage Zone 3-9. 18", Eastern US, part shade-shade, moist, well drained
Some of the purple from its "tri-cornered" flowers spills over to prettily spot the leaves of this 1-2" eastern-midwestern US wildflower with purple, as well. PSh/Med
