In early summer, against a background of glossy dark-green foliage, huge (8-10") lacy clusters of creamy-white flowers turn pink and then rosy-red as the weather cools at summer?s end; hardier and amenable to pruning. S/M
Chantilly Lace panicle hydrangea has been one of our favorites since it was introduced 20 years ago. Reasons? We like an open, looser flower panicle (a.k.a. head or cone), the manageable 8-10' stature, the dark green leaves - and especially how all this holds up in oven-hot heat here in Georgia. The panicles are a mix of fertile and sterile flowers and the bees love them. In fact, the flowers heads were veritably abuzz with bees as we took cuttings in July 2017. The flowers do not antique pink here in zone 8a, but we've read that they blush light pink in cooler zones. We have some grown as single trunks so you can train as a standard, others are multiple-stemmed, so please send us a note about which type you'd like when you order.

Not just another pretty face. A seedling of Tardiva, Chantilly Lace inherited the early blooming qualities that make Tardiva so special. Tight habit and darkest green leaves make the wshite blooms really stand out. The upright blooms are 10" and 6" wide on our speciman we acquired from the Center for Applied Nursery Research in Dearing, Georgia. The big bold petals are the brightest white and surround the creamy white fertile florets. Enjoy the white blooms in July, pink blooms in August and deep pink bloms in the fall until first frost when they turn back to creamy white. It's like three plants in one.
