Glowing orange-red flowers on a carpet of silver... beautiful!; this wild ?fuchsia?, lower growing?to 4" tall?than others, also starts blooming earlier and does so over a longer period. S-PSh/M-D/GDr

Zauschneria garrettii Orange Carpet® features a low-growing mat of small green leaves producing loads of orange-red tubular blooms. This hardy perennial is evergreen in warmer climates. Hummingbird Trumpet requires good drainage in wet winter areas. It will do well in any dry soil. Great for rock gardens and containers.

A striking ground cover, selected by David Salman of High Country Gardens nursery, and perfect for attracting hummingbirds. Shrubby stems form mats of green foliage and, in mid to late summer, bright orange, tubular flowers appear in profusion -- just when there isn't much other color. Sun to part shade in well-drained soil with little summer water necessary, though a little encourages more flowers. Dies to the ground returning easily in spring. Frost hardy in USDA zone 5.

Rapidly spreading groundcover with masses of orange-scarlet flowers summer to fall. A selection made from seed collected in Idaho, this is the best form of California fuchsia for high altitude or cool climate gardens. Perennial. Xeriscape. Sandy soil or clay loam; not fussy. USDA zones 3-8 (up to 9,000').
