Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Dry rocky hillsides are the home of this bushy, ornamental, 30-45' native cypress with its dark fibrous bark and thick gray-green foliage; beautifully conical when young; flat-topped and picturesque with age. S/D/GDr
California endemic found in yellow pine forests and chaparral and serpentine communities. This adaptable cypress grows slowly in dry environments, reaching 12-15' tall over time, and more quickly where water is more plentiful, reaching a possible 50' tall -- a handsome evergreen tree of any size with layered branches and gray bark. Prefers lean, well-drained soil but tolerates a wide range of soils; also tolerates summer drought and accepts occasional summer water. Best in full sun and frost hardy to at least 0 °F, USDA zone 7 with reports of tolerance into zone 6. Cupressaceae
