A popular spring shade plant: waxy, fragrant, bell-shaped flowers are held above the upright, elliptic foliage. Lily-of-the-Valley’s spreading habit makes it a useful groundcover under deciduous trees or in areas with partial sun or shade. The fragrance is one of those classics for spring. Fragrance, abundance of bloom, ease of culture, success in shade, and colonizing tendencies combine to make this wonderfully undemanding plant a universal favorite; tiny bright-white fragrant bells in early spring rise on stalks to perch just above the glossy 6-9" leaves; a perfect choice for fairy gardens. (LILY OF THE VALLEY) This spreading perennial is grown for its incredible evocative fragrance! Nodding bells of white on stems 6-12” tall in spring fill the air with scent. Very easy to grow in well drained moist soils…prefers colder winter climates, may struggle in Zones 6-7. Perfect for a lightly shaded area under deciduous trees where it won’t overrun more dainty plantings. This will grow under walnut trees. Just a few stems in a small vase will perfume a room. Muguet Des Bois! USDA Z2-7

Convallaria majalis, commonly called Lily of the Valley, is a lovely, herbaceous, clump-forming perennial that forms a light, airy groundcover. Short spikes of white, bell-shaped flowers emerge from the center of broad, lance-shaped glossy green leaves. Thrives in organically enriched, moist, well-drained soil. Lily of the Valley makes a beautiful naturalized groundcover in shady gardens.

If you plan to plant your lily of the valley pips indoors to force, these are the pips to choose. They are oversized, the top 10% of what our grower harvests. Theses pips are designed to be planted in pots and grown under bright lights; they'll flower in just a few weeks. And of course, after blooming inside they can be transplanted to a shady spot outdoors to grace the yard with more fragrant bells next season and beyond. 6 flowering size pips, enough for a 5-6' pot. Botanical relief to get you through the last weeks of cabin fever.

Fragrant bell shaped flowers hang beneath handsome leaves. An old beloved favorite. Makes an admirable groundcover in good conditions, and can be surprisingly adept to less than perfect environmental factors. Grows about 6-9" tall and slowly spreads in goood soil. Recommended by: the United States National Arboretum.
