(VARIEGATED TOAD LILY) This tough, pretty perennial is NO toad! Forms a colony of upright stems to 2’ on expanding rhizomes (non-invasive), give it 2-3’ to show off in. Green leaves have a golden edge…blooms appear in fall, pale lilac orchid like flowers spotted with purple, at the perfect time when garden companions are fading. Likes a morning sun or bright shade position and loose, moist, fertile soil. Has been vigorous and forgiving for us. USDA Z6
This lovely, compact toad lily features lush-green foliage with irregular creamy-white to bright-chartreuse margins. Creates a mounding clump to 12-24" tall and will eventually spread to 36" wide. The unusual late-summer flowers are milky-white with heavy wine-purple spotting and golden throats. This perennial is wonderful for shady borders or containers. PSh-Sh/M-W
Tricyrtis formosana ‘Gilt Edge’ displays dark pink and white, orchid-like flowers, heavily spotted and streaked with purple. The leaves are variegated with creamy yellow edges. If you need a fall blooming plant for the shade garden, Tricyrtis is a great choice. It prefers a moist but well-drained garden soil. Toad Lilies are generally late to emerge in spring.
The subtle enhancement of a narrow creamy yellow margin sets this form of Toad Lily apart. Lavender purple spotted orchid like flowers are borne on branched stems in late summer and early fall. Plants enjoy an evenly moist soil in partial shade, grow 20-24" tall and spread when given room.
Fine gold edge on leaves; flowers white w/Purple spots.
Nice little variegated version of this plant. Not quite hardy for us, but very nice where it is. Unlike many species which tend have their foliage get a little ratty by the time they flower, this looks great right up to the very end. Zone 6
