Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Polygonatum biflorum 'Prince Charming' is a stately plant noted for its arching stems and blue-green foliage, compact height, and heavy bloom of fragrant, white pendant flowers in spring. Classic elegance for the shade garden, tolerant of dry shade. Spreads by rhizomes to form beautiful colonies.
A Solomon's Seal from that is not as tall as P. commutatum or as small as P. humile. 12" arching stems are clothed with gray-green leaves and dangling below are white and green bells in mid spring., followed by blue-black fruit. Deer and rabbit resistant, tolerant of dry shade, and spreads slowly by just below the surface rhizomes.
Cute dwarf clumps of green foliage on thick erect stems.? Fragrant creamy white flowers in spring followed by purple berries in fall.? Yellow fall color.? A Chicagoland Grows introduction selected by Intrinsic Perennial Gardens.
Selected by Brent Horvath at Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Inc., Hebron, Illinois, this vigorous selection of Solomon's seal produces attractive medium-green foliage that can take on a bluish cast in full sun, contrasting with the gray undersides of the foliage. A profusion of creamy-white, fragrant flowers produced in spring is followed by green berries that turn purple in autumn. The season ends with the foliage turning an attractive golden yellow in October and November. A vigorous spreader, yet compact, growing only to 12” of height.
An Intrinsic Introduction in cooperation with Chicagoland Grows Program. Likely a hybrid with humile and the tall native form of commutatum. This charming form grows to only 1' tall with the thick foliage resembling the native form backed with a grey-green color. Heavy blooming plants begin in late May with a pair of creamy white tubular flowers coming from each leaf axis, almost from the tip to the ground. These perfume scented flowers are followed by green berries that turn purple in August and hold on into winter. In October or November, the foliage turns gold contrasting nicely with the purple berries. These adaptable plants will grow in full sun to shade and dry to average soil. PPAF
