Amsonia ciliata 'Halfway to Arkansas' is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with green foliage. In spring blue and purple flowers emerge. Features glossy texture. Delicate blue flower clusters bloom late spring / early summer. Ground cover or small shrub, growing to about 2-3 feet in heigth & width. Needle-like foliage turns a pleasant gold in autumn.
This selection of Arkansas Blue Star, selected by Brent Horvath of Intrinsic Perennials, is more compact at 2' in height and up to 3' wide with pale blue flowers, but the same wonderful fine textured foliage that turns brilliant gold in autumn. Amsonia is one of the top perennials for colder climates for its long season of good looks and adaptability to soil types.
An Intrinsic Introduction. The foliage is a glossy deep green and uniformly needle-like. Pale blue flowers cluster in May. Rounded mounds top out just over 36" tall and wide. Yellow fall color comes a bit later than the other Amsonias. Full sun to light shade in well drained to moist soil.
