?One of the showiest of hardy large shrubs? (Hillier), this fast-growing 10- 20' shrub/tree provides a splash with its large white-turning-pink flowers in mid summer when it?s appreciated...cut they make nice winter decoration. S-PSh/M
One of the tallest and toughest of the Hydrangeas, 'Grandiflora' (also known as PeeGee) grows to 8-15 feet tall and 5-6 feet wide with flowers that emerge lime-green before turning white and then eventually aging to light pink. The flowers are 6-8 inches long but can be enlarged by removing all but four or five of the biggest stems in the winter, forcing the plant to produce fewer but larger flowers.

Unlike other Hydrangea species, the paniculata varieties will grow in full sun and produce thick, woody stems that allow plants to be pruned into an upright tree form rather than their natural shrub form. Plants are also exceptionally cold hardy, tolerating temperatures down to -40 degrees. Flowers are produced on the current summer's growth so heavy pruning should be done in winter to ensure continued flowering that year. You can prune plants down to about six inches tall each winter to keep the plant as small as 2-3 feet tall during the summer.
Hydrangea PeeGee, or Hydrangea paniculata, is a fast growing shrub noted for its large splash of white when very few plants are in flower. Hydrangea PeeGee boasts 6 to 8 inch long white blooms that are 3 - 4 inches wide at the base. Excellent for a wide hedge or specimen. The Hydrangea PeeGee displays moderate water requirements and a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils. One of the few hydrangeas that will grow in full sun.
Large, deciduous shrub with very showy, conical double white flowers in mid-summer on panicles that are between 8 and 18". All flowers are sterile. The blooms turn pinkish to bronze as they age. Blooms on current season's growth, so should be pruned in winter or early spring. Growth Rate fast
A large shrub with white mophead type flowers in the late summer later turning pink. Excellent cut flower for dry flowered arrangements in winter. Sometimes grown as a tree form standard. 5-6? in ten years. Can reach 10' tall or more but usually kept smaller in cultivation. The cold hardiest hydrangea; Hilliers says it is 'one of the showiest of hardy large shrubs. Awards: First Class Certificate and Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. Recommended by: the United States National Arboretum.

A popular variety sometimes called "PeeGee". A common American garden plant and highly valued for its vigor and bloom dependability. Grandiflora has sterile flowers that appear in July and remain on the plant until the first hard frost. The large conical shaped white flower heads turn to pink in the fall with gray-green leaves. PeeGee was sent to America from Japan in 1861 and continues to be one of the best loved varieties. The blooms can easily be used for drying.
Large conical blooms open white, slowly fade to pink. Regular water. Prune after bloom. Zones 4-8.
