A tough, fast-growing tree with upright arching branches and a rounded crown. Masses of pendulous clusters of purple to rose-pink flowers appear in the late spring, which give way to persistent seed pods. Compound green leaves turn pale yellow in the fall before lightly dropping to the ground and blowing away. Grows well in hot dry climates and adapts well to urban conditions and poor soils.
