Daphne mezereum is a broadleaf deciduous shrub with green foliage. In spring purple and white flowers emerge followed by purple and yellow fruit. Attracts birds. Does well in acidic, rich and well-drained soil.
This tough plant will grow even in very cold areas. Our plants came from Yakima, Washington for years, we have the first flowers at New Years and they last until mid February. This is one of the hardiest shrubs we grow in full sun to semi shade. Not long lived, but once established it will seed enough to always have a neat show each winter.
February daphne is an upright deciduos shrub with mid green leaves. In late winter the naked stems are festooned with intoxicatingly fragrant magenta-purple flowers later turning into red berries. This one of the hardiest of daphnes. Plant in part sun/part shade with morning or late afternoon sun (protect it from the hottest sun of the day) in rich, well-drained soil. Do not move after planting due to sensitive roots.
Late-winter flowering shrub of rounded outline growing slowly to 4'. Its delightful fragrance turns heads, and a cut sprig will brighten the mood in any office or home. Early summer, bright red berries add a second season of ornamental appeal. Prefers well-drained soil. These are relatively short seedlings, but well rooted. Pot them up early and grow them in a well-drained container mix to avoid root disease.
