Sunflower Pawpaw is a broadleaf deciduous fruit / vegetable or tree with green foliage. In spring burgundy and chocolate flowers emerge followed by green fruit. Attracts bees and beneficial insects making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - dappled shade and even moisture - regular water. Adapts to various soil conditions. Unusual burgundy flowers become large, sweetly delicious, yellow 'custard bananas' which grace this award-wining, self-fertile, 15-20' native shrub/tree, found in Kansas in 1970 it is one of the latest ripening varieties extending the season; its huge gracefully-drooping 8-12" leaves also add a dramatic tropical touch to the landscape and turn a lovely lemon-yellow in the autumn; this Pawpaw can also be used to make a fine screen. Pawpaws usually aren't self fertile, but this one is; supposed to be very hardy.
