Mums are not my muse, but this baby is not your average Mum! Each fluted yellow petal has a spoon tip that gets redder as fall temps cool…like a ring of lit matchsticks clustered tightly around the soft yellow center! Highly textural and colorful, this Mum will command attention in the garden in fall for weeks. Compact, perennial mounds 18-24” tall and wide, best in sun, most soils, moist to dry. Easy to grow, good in pots too.
Matchsticks' is a great name for this quilledpetal variety, for the tip of each golden petal is dipped in a smoldering scarlet orange hue. Blooms lavishly by the middle of September. Provide organic soils, moist yet well-drained. In very hot summer areas provide afternoon shade. Pinch to shape, no later than July 4th.
A "perennial" mum with quilled spoon shaped two tone petals...golden yellow and orange red. Tend to stay more compact...18-24"...then older hardy mum varieties.
