Syringa reticulata is a broadleaf deciduous shrub or tree with green foliage. In spring and summer white flowers emerge followed by brown fruit. Grows well with sun - bright shade and occasional water. Does well in gritty and well-drained soil.

With its tree-like form and lack of pest and disease problems, it has a secure place as a specimen tree in the landscape. Hardy and adaptable, it is best planted in full sun. Weaker branches should be thinned occasionally to highlight the strongest branches of its handsome form.

Perhaps the finest of the lilac trees, the S. reticulata has dark green leaves that become arching in mature trees, lending a graceful appearance. With a medium growth rate, this hardy tree reaches 9-12' over 6-8 years, to a mature height of 20-30', with a 15-25' spread. Fragrant white blossoms form large beautiful panicles up to 12" long. An excellent specimen, this lilac makes a great street tree.
