Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Phyllostachys bambusoides 'Castillon Inversa' is one of the many interesting variations of P. bambusoides, a large Asian timber bamboo. 'Castillon' will often grow to a height of around 35-45 feet with a culm diameter of 3 inches, smaller than the species which is recorded by the American Bamboo Society as growing to 60 feet with 5 inch diameter culms. Because of this, 'Castillon Inversa' is often a little easier to manage and is often a good choice when a timber bamboo is desired but space is limited.

'Castillon Inversa' looks especially stunning when planted next to or within its inverse, 'Castillon', which has bright yellow stems and dark green stripes.

A yellow stripe runs through the sulcus of each internode.

'Castillon Inversa' makes a good hedge when kept at twenty feet or less.
If you prefer the classic green of bamboo with just a little added interest, you'll like this one. The shoots emerge that wonderful fresh green and slowly the groove becomes a harvest yellow, just the right amount of distinction! Eventually can reach 30 to 35'.
