Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This multipurpose and highly fragrant shrub is a perfect addition to the herb garden! Dark purple-blue flower spikes rise above 2' mounds of silver-green foliage providing color for borders, containers or rock gardens. This lavender is especially lovely in mass plantings. This choice cultivar is grown for its essential oil and its use as a fragrant or culinary herb. S/M-D
Zn 5. Purple flowers. Compact gray foliage.
Dark purple flowers, compact
This cultivar has the richest purple flowers of all lavenders which are borne from lovely silvery-grey foliage. Very fragrant flowers and foliage on compact plants. Easy to care for and enjoy. The Victorians always planted them right on a path so their skirts would brush the foliage and release the fragrance! Shear lavenders lightly in early spring just as they begin growth and again after flowering to keep tidy.
Exceptional dwarf form growing to 1' tall with an equal spread and bearing aromatic gray foliage held at right angles to the stems. Tall spikes held above the foliage produce masses of densely arranged, dark purple flowers from mid to late-summer. A favorite for arrangements as the dried flowers retain their rich color. Hardy to below 0F. Originally from Major Lawrence Johnston at Hidcote Manor prior to 1950.
A mounding perennial herb with fragrant dark purple flowers growing 12-14 " tall
Selected at the famous Hidcote Garden, this lavender has violet-purple flowers that grow on spikes 10-15" long. Foliage is silvery gray and fragrant, and densely covers the mounding, evergreen, 12" high plant.
