Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Usually flowering in May and re-blooming thereafter, L. stoechas is earlier than English or French Lavenders. The flower of this species bears a resemblance to a small purple fir cone or tiny pineapple with a flourish of dark purple bracts on top. Butterflies find it quite alluring. The silvery and evergreen foliage is particularly resinous, i.e., wonderfully pungent. 18" - 2 ft tall and wide and vase-shaped. Minimum temperature: 10?F
It's not hard to figure out why these plants are commonly called "rabbit ear lavender", with their pair or trio of longer upright purple tufts. Spanish lavender are superior plants for hot, dry settings.
