A wonderful suckering 3-6' shrub native to the Eastern United States and Canada has great multi-season interest, spring brings masses of white flower clusters that contrast beautifully with the deep-green leaves before becoming gorgeous dark-blue berry clusters which hang on while the bush turns into a flame of bright-red fall color, the berries are edible although astringent and are used for delicious juices and jellies (they are packed with antioxidants too!), the berries can also be left on the bush for their wildlife value; this shrub makes a perfect hedge, mass planting or specimen. (Note: remove suckers if you do not want this shrub to colonize). S/M-W
Showy white flowers grace Black Chokeberry for a few weeks in May. Birds enjoy the blackish purple fruits that form in summer. Though extremely tart off the bush, fruit may be used to make tasty jams and jellies. Showy fall color ranging from orange to burgundy. Aronia melanocarpa spreads by suckers to form thickets that form cover for a variety of birds. An excellent wildlife shrub. Zones 3-8.
A spreading Chokeberry that will take any soil. Great for erosion control in a 'hateful' place. Beautiful black berries. Good for massing. Fall color can be a good wine red and the purplish black, 1/2" berries are also handsome. Native and while spreading by suckers, not invasive.

An adaptable deciduous shrub which tolerates wet soil, cold, heat and wind. These deciduous shrubs produce a profusion of tiny white fragrant flowers in clusters which give way to purple blushed, black fruit that persist through the winter.
