Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Enjoy the fragrant white flowers ; bright red fall color of this fine native in this smaller (to 3' rather than 6-8'), more easily handled package developed at Morton Arboretum. Sun/Med-Wet
A unique dwarf habit, this multi-stemmed shrub has a showy display of pure white flowers in May, good production of black fruit, and attractive orange to wine-red foliage in autumn. It establishes quickly after transplanting and slowly makes colonies by spreading via root suckers. A native shrub selected by The Morton Arboretum from an Illinois wild population. Good production of black fruit in autumn. The fruit are eaten by various songbirds, young shoots browsed by deer and rabbits
A somewhat more compact cultivar typically growing 2-3' tall and 4-5' wide selected by Morton Arboretum and introduced by Chicagoland Grows. With the same beautiful fragrant 5 petaled white flowers, foliage, fruits and fall colors as the species, it's just more compact. Why Chokeberry? Well, because although technically edible, black chokeberry is so tart it will make you choke! But they're good for tasty jams and jellies. While spreading by suckers, not invasive.
