Nursery contributed plant descriptions

"If I had to pick a favorite wildflower, this is it" (BB Miles) with its bunches of delicate white flowers framed by the soft green of new spring atop 4" stems; will slowly make lovely colonies in light shade. PSh/M/GDr
Sweet spring woodland bloomer from the forests of the eastern US, dainty with ferny foliage in slowly expanding clumps 4-6” tall and 12” wide. Bright white flowers resembling anemones in late spring. Easy in well drained, rich soil in part shade to shade, perfect for the shaded rock garden! We grow ours under rooty trees and that seems to keep the winter soils dry enough… Ephemeral, so it emerges with the spring rains, flowers and goes dormant in summer and fall. An irrigated situation will coax the leaves into hanging around longer. Deer and critter resistant.
One of my favorite little plants in my favorite family, Ranunculaceae. This is also one of the first plants to bloom in the Spring. With it's delicate Anemone-like foliage and its long lasting white blooms, its perfect for the semi-shady rock garden or the wild shade garden. Height is only 4"- 8" and it will reseed around to form a colony very quickly.
Anemonella thalictroides or rue anemone is a delicate eastern North American native forming small mounds or colonies of light green, lobed foliage which resemble Thalictrum topped with cup-shaped, multi-petaled white flowers with golden stamens that resemble Anemone. Goes dormant by summer. Grow in pots or in a shady rock garden or woodland setting. Prefers evenly moist, moderately fertile, soil in partial shade. Photo: Wikipedia.
If you can't afford and/or grow double Hepatica, this is your next best bet. The blooms are fully double, appear in great numbers over a long period of time. Given they have a well drained soil, they are very easy to grow in a light shade to shady spot. They like it moist in spring and will bloom longer if the moisture is being kept up into late spring. Once they are done blooming, additional watering can be held off as they'll go dormant in summer.
A charming little eastern American woodlander, with delicate columbine like foliage and demure little anemone flowers in white or pink.. ZONE 4
We call these quaternary plants. First you have the big woodies, secondly, the small woodies/big perennials and the tertiary element of small woodies/perennials. We have found that the next level down, the Quaternary, really makes it work. This is such a plant. Summer dormant. Easy.
