Huge yellow flowers (May to frost!) complemented by SILVER-blue foliage make this wildflower of the southern Prairies a lovely addition to any drought-tolerant/xeriscape garden. S/M-D/GDr
Oenothera macrocarpa ssp. incana 'Silver Blade' is a stunning evening primrose with huge, lemon yellow flowers four inches across on red stems from spring until fall, either constantly or in waves. Deadhead to encourage more flowers. Foliage is lance-shaped, rippled, silver-blue to blue-green contrasting beautifully with the flowers. It will form a lush yet drought tolerant groundcovering mat perfect for lean, gritty soils in rock gardens, gravel gardens, along driveways, on banks, trailing over walls or in other xeriscapes or in containers. Easy to grow. Shear down in fall or early spring.
Low growing rosettes of intensely silver broad leaves. The foliage display would be reason enough to grow it, but the flowers are also extremely large and a beautiful shade of pale yellow. Zone 4.
Lance shaped leaves of ghostly silver on 1' tall and spreading plants are well suited for the 3" wide lemon drop yellow summer flowers. An excellent plant.
A southern Great Plains endemic introduced by James Locklear, further promoted by Bluebird Nursery, Clarkson, Nebraska. Silver leaves compliment the clear yellow flowers. Best on well drained sites. Blooms May to frost. Drought tolerant. Perennial. Xeriscape. Easy in average garden soil. USDA zones 4a-9 (up to 8,000').
Exceptionally long blooming, & HEAT & DROUGHT TOLERANT! This new selection of “Missouri Evening Primrose” made by James Lockyear bears huge 4”-across delightful, bright yellow, silky blooms from May-September - especially with dead-heading. Clump forming to 6-10” tall & 18” across, this reliable newbie boasts stand-out soft silvery-blue wavy foliage. TOUGH AS NAILS, this bloomiferous ground-covering perennial makes a superb long-lived choice for the front of a dry garden as it will spill attractively over the edge of a bed. Tolerating poor soil, it’s also a good choice for low-care situations as well ascontainers, too. For tip-top appearance, remove spent blooms, cut back in Winter & add a dollop of compost in the Spring. EASY!
