This 'wildflower tulip' calls Crete it's home – only 6" tall and blooming mid season, this very easy naturalizing tulip has lilac pink petals circling a deep gold center – needs no irrigation, great in a rock garden or any sunny spot in fast draining dryish summer soil will do!
Tulipa bakeri 'Lilac Wonder' has lavender pink flowers opening to reveal bright yellow centres. Botanical tulips are miniature to small species tulips, cultivars of species, or dwarf named cultivars not far removed from their wild ancestors. They are strongly perennial and will naturalize when happy unlike the large Dutch hybrids which are often treated as annuals or which fail after a couple years.
Like yellow and white Tarda, Lilac Wonder is one of the more widely planted botanical tulips. Rightfully so. The contrasting light purple and yellow petal markings ensure that the colors stand out even with the other blooms of spring in full force. Plant several handfuls of these in ground cover and throughout perennial beds to elevate your spring garden several notches.
