Petals on this dwarf, species tulip are cherry red and surround a white edged, striking violet blue center! Blooms in early May, 4-8" tall, vigorous, long lasting…a good naturalizer. At home in the rock garden. Sun, well drained soil, summer dry for good naturalizing.
Tulipa 'Little Beauty' is a four-colour stunner. She has deep pink petals with an interior of black, royal blue, and white. Botanical tulips are miniature to small species tulips, cultivars of species, or dwarf named cultivars not far removed from their wild ancestors. They are strongly perennial and will naturalize when happy unlike the large Dutch hybrids which are often treated as annuals or which fail after a couple years.
The colors on these little tulips look like they were chosen by a 14 year old girl - deep pink, white and purplish blue. Still, most everyone else likes them, too, for their bright eyed look and perfect-for-edgings diminutive size. Plant a couple dozen (they're dirt cheap) and they'll make you smile for years to come.

Listening to some gardeners talk about it, you would think that a genuinely "perennial" tulip is some kind of holy grail. The dream of a tulip that comes back and multiplies has inspired and then eluded many gardeners. Any skepticism you may have is why I hesitate to make the following claim, but here it is: Wild or species tulips are perennials." Unlike wimpy modern tulips, these tulips like to multiply and come back every year! They spred through underground runners called stolens. You might even find them growing places you didn't plant them! These produce fragrant flowers of exceptional beauty. They are very reliable in the garden. If you haven't tried them, now is the time! Hardy in zones 3-9. Flowering period: early Plant height: about 6 inches
