Crocosmia 'Red King' is a broadleaf deciduous perennial bulb / corm / tuber with green foliage. In summer red flowers emerge. Attracts butterflies making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun and regular water. Prefers to be dry in summer. Does well in rich and well-drained soil.
Crocosmia 'Red King' is a compact montbretia offering spectacular red, funnel-shaped flowers with yellow-orange centres on arching stems for a bi-colour effect. Green foliage is sword-like offering a vertical, spiky texture. Compact and clump-forming 24 inches tall with a 16 inch spread. Flowers bloom in mid to late summer providing a fiery lift to the garden. Requires well-drained soil. Great in borders, containers, mass planting, and for cut flowers. Heralding a passionate array of toasty colors, this smaller sized cultivar was selected by British gardener John Fitt and introduced in 1929. Hearty, lance-shaped green leaves support a multitude of sizzling salsa-red, star-styled blooms, which showcase luminous yellow centers fringed with darker tangerine shades.
This is a floriferous selection which we are hard pressed to distinguish from 'Emberglow' except that this is just a scosh, a tad, indeed a mere smidgeon lighter in color than 'Emberglow'. Small funnels of orange red flowers in profusion.
