Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The flowers on this species are unique to Dieramas; bell-shaped with distinctive rounded tips, like a classic harebell (Campanula). The leaves are relatively narrow and soft.
This Fairy’s Wand seems to have a personality disorder in the trade; information varies on size, color and bloom time. It is listed 2-3’ and 3-4’ tall…and blooming anywhere between June and September. It is agreed that flowers are pendant bells…pink mauve hues dangling from exceptionally thin wiry stems. So, buy one or two, trial it for us and let us know what it does! We have it in the garden too.
Sublime & so EASY, this petite (2-3' high & wide) Dierama is excellent for smaller spaces. Blooming in Spring on delicate stems, with fairy princess pink pendulous bells, it's delightful arching over the edge of a bed or in a good sized container (5 gallons & up). This Dierama hails from the South Eastern Cape of South Africa where it's found in marshes & next to streambanks, so it likes more moisture than your average ?Fairy Wand". Once established it will tolerate more droughty conditions. Evergreen & needing only occasional grooming (just pull the spent leaves & cut down faded flower stems & top dress annually when the plants are in growth.) Especially heavy soils should be amended for drainage.
Very rare species from South Africa and it is difficult for us to absolutely confirm that it is this species although it appears correct and our source is reliable. The problem is that the Dierama monograph just has a photo of a dried herbarium specimen. Evergreen clumps and small pink flowers.
