Nursery contributed plant descriptions

x Phylliopsis is an intergeneric hybrid between Phyllodoce and Kalmiopsis and is thus properly preceded with an “x”. But what is really important is that this low-growing, evergreen shrub is smothered in deep pink, bell-shaped flowers in midspring and often repeat blooms in early summer and again in fall. A spreading mounding plant, x Phylliopsis has fine dark green foliage and likes all the same conditions as heathers. It needs well-drained acid soil. Excellent in the alpine garden.

Conjuring visions of dancing fairies, this enchanting Ericaceous gem is an intergeneric hybrid between Phyllodoce and Kalmiopsis, conceived at Hillier's in the 1980s. Dainty deep pink urns nearly envelope a tidy low evergreen mound of compact dark green Heather-like foliage. With reddish stems and calyxes, 'Sugar Plum' offers a flowery summer encore, prospers in well-drained acidic soil and looks simply irresistible in the rockery, alpine garden or a treasured container.

A superb little ericaceous plant with needlelike evergreen foliage and pink, heather like flowers over a long period beginning in late spring. Low, mounding habit. Needs acid soil and excellent drainage. Terrific in a rock garden or a container.

Jewel for the rock garden covering itself in nice soft pink flowers. This is a bigeneric hybrid between Phyllodoce, a type of heather, and Kalmiopsis, a heather relative endemic to the Siskiyous. This makes a dense little evergreen shrub that likes sun and good drainage and not too dry.
