Nursery contributed plant descriptions

One of the best known hardy Agaves, this species needs little introduction. It is one of the most attractive species, forming tight rosettes of numerous blue grey to silvery, stout leaves tipped with black spines. The rosettes are usually solitary, sometimes forming a few offsets, and reach about 3' across. It is very tough and tolerant of rain and cold, and has grown to maturity and flowered in the Pacific Northwest. All of my collections of this species are from the highest and most north-easterly (i.e. coldest) locations that this species occurs in the wild, and should be able to cope with temperatures down to -20 °F. This collection is from just below the Mogollon Rim, north of Young, Arizona at 6,150'. DS.
