Nursery contributed plant descriptions

One of the rarest hardy Agaves, this little known species was recognized by Gentry but is still seldom encountered in cultivation. He conjectured that it may be some sort of cline between A. neomexicana and A. lechuguilla. This year I offer a different collection than last year, from a more compact plant with many rosettes of upward pointing leaves, which are a little more on the green side rather than greyish. This collection comes from 5,000' in the mountains east of Alamogordo, New Mexico, well north of the northern extent of the native range of A. lechuguilla. My collection of this species from last year (from about the same elevation, farther south) proved be much hardier to cold than plants of A. lechuguilla of similar size. Hardy to at least -15 °F. Be among the first to try this unusual offering!
