Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A profusion of cut petals in burgundy and almost black. A showy addition to the early summer garden with cornflower 'Black Gem', and foxglove 'Apricot'. Self sows.
Each gigantic peony-like bloom on this swanky poppy is like a flounce of inky feathers. Saucy! The 5” blooms are packed with fringed petals & bloom in late Spring when poppies are doing their thing. Put your poppies in the ground as early as you can – as soon as the ground is workable, or if you live somewhere mild, you can even start them in the Fall! This, combined with rich soil will yield poppies of monstrous size. Like, 4’ tall & up to 3’ wide. Yowza! This one does need a bit of staking (those huge blooms get heavy) so be prepared. If planted later, they will still grow & bloom, but their potential for traffic-stopping is diminished. Reseeds! Poppy Fans - As cool season growers, Papavers should be planted only when extreme heat or extreme cold is not anticipated! Due to Agricultural Restrictions we cannot ship this plant to West Virginia
