Buy Papaver orientale 'Beauty of Livermere'

Papaver orientale 'Beauty of Livermere' has very frilly,cup-shaped, crape paper-like scarlet red flowers with a dark purple centre surrounded by dark splotches at the base. Flowers range from 4-6 inches wide and rise above thistle-like foliage in late spring on stems 3-4 feet tall. Oriental poppies are dramatic additions to the perennial border. Grow in organically rich, medium moisture soil and full sun. They go semi-dormant after flowering as summer heat increases usually flushing new foliage as summer cools into fall. Plant a low, mounding perennial in front of your poppy patch to mask the bare spot. Note that the main shipping season of May and June for potted oriental poppies corresponds with the time these poppies will naturally go dormant. The stress of shipping often brings on this dormancy a little early. Remember: it's the roots that count. New foliage will flush later in the season. Deer and rabbit resistant.

Perennial poppy with extra-large, glowing red flowers with a mysterious black center; basal clumps of foliage are hairy and serrated. Flowers in late spring to early summer on stems 30-36” tall. Plants need a dryish soil with decent drainage and sun. Deer and critter resistant; will multiply if happy. Nice cut flower. Plant crown high and keep mulch/compost off the crown.

Stunning blood red flowers on 2' tall stems come into bloom here simultaneously with Allium 'Globemaster' and Asphodeline lutea for a memorable vignette.
