Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A tough and large western native shrub which is covered with white, deliciously fragrant spring flowers reminiscent of orange-blossoms. Its dense medium-green leaves and yellow fall color make it a fine hedge and its lovely shredding bark is also attractive. Botanical specimens were first collected by Meriwether Lewis on the famed Lewis and Clark expedition and used by the Native Americans long before that for soap, tools, snowshoes and more. S/M
This highly perfumed beauty covers itself in 2" white flowers in mid-spring. A Southwest native that survives without much water and grows to about 6 feet tall by 4-5 feet wide. Looks nice in a shady corner of the garden and will take sun too! Minimum temperature: -30?F
Blooms late spring, white fragrant flowers, woody shrub related to Hydrangeaceae family. Easy and stunning native shrub. Zone 5-8. 6'-10', PNW, sun, part shade, moist-dry, humus rich
Single white fragrant flowers spring, yellow fall color, drought tolerant once established. Zones 4-8.
In early Summer Philadelphus lewisii covers itself with a profusion of large 2” pure white flowers, each with a boss of yellow stamens. The fragrance is amazing: orange-blossom with a hint of pineapple. Yum! Discovered in 1906 by Meriwether Lewis, “Wild Mock-orange” is widespread through northwestern California, Montana & it is the state flower of Idaho. Its habitat varies & I have seen it in semi-shaded Californian woodlands as well as poking out of volcanic cracks in blazing hot “Craters of the Moon”, Idaho. In gardens, it thrives in semi-shade & makes a great background shrub or specimen plant. The shrub can get large (4-10’ tall & 6-12’ wide) so make sure to give it space to grow. Poor soil is OK & it requires little water although it may lose it leaves prematurely in very dry soil.
