Welcoming blooms in springtime and end-of-the-season blooms in the fall make this cool growing species a well-loved Angel's Trumpet. Known as the Red Angel's Trumpet, the orange-red blooms, although smaller than others in the genus, bring unusual color to your brugmansia collection. The present clone that we grow has shown better heat tolerance than other selections we have grown in the past.
A semi-evergreen, open shrub or with training, a small tree, bearing broadly lance shaped, wavy edged, velvety, grey-green leaves. The In summer and autumn, ribbed, trumpet shaped, yellow flowers with flared red ends, emerge from green, pod-like bracts, to hang from the branches like giant christmas ornaments. For a warm position, sheltered from wind. Although B. sanguinea is the most cold hardy and is tolerant of some frost.Keep moist while in active growth.Prune in spring after it warms up.All parts are toxic if ingested.

The most spectacular flower display of the genus! So lucky for us, we here in Northern California’s coastal areas have the perfect climate to grow it in, as it requires cool summer & cooler nights to bloom. A small tree, 6-8' tall, it makes an extraordinary display in late Spring through Summer. Pendulous, recurved, scarlet to orange, 8", tubular "trumpets" with yellow sides are borne in abundance - up to 40 at a time. Care: Brugmansia sanguinea likes rich, moist soil. It doesn't like to dry out & will drop leaves if it does. A heavy feeder, too. Do fertilize & top dress with compost every so often. These are seed grown plants, & the occasional individual may turn out to be yellow!
