Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Huangwenzhu Inversa' is one of the most colorful varieties of Phyllostachys vivax and is similar to 'Aureocaulis' except that the green striping over the yellow canes occurs regularly. The green stripe runs up above each branch bud on alternating sides of the canes in a similar fashion to Phyllostachys bambusoides 'Castillon'.

Even though all of the Phyllostachys vivax varieties will achieve a large size in the ground, they can be kept to a smaller size in a container and grow well in a large pot. A 25 gallon pot or a half wine barrel will usually be large enough to accommodate this colorful plant and keep it to around ten or fifteen feet in height, a viable option for those with limited space.

A cold hardy bamboo good to -5 F. Commonly referred to as 'Kimmei Vivax'. This newest form of vivax is colored like the Castillon form of bambusoides. Yellow culms with a green sulcus. It is more vigorous and hardier than Castillon. It will be one of the most sought after forms due to the brilliant contrast between the yellow culms and the dark green leaves and sulcus, and its hardiness.

Dark green sulcus makes a brilliant contrast with the straw yellow culms. Running type to 45ft tall.
