Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A rare, beautiful and fragrant bulbous perennial, 5-6" tall and a slow naturalizer; stems are topped in April > May with spikes of lemon yellow florets tipped in purple and sweetly scented, reminiscent of a mix of gardenia and banana! Native to the Aegean & Crete, this plant is sacred to the Mother Goddess and is called 'Kore' (the maid) after Persephone. Well drained soil, sun to bright shade (dry and hot in summer) (Z5 with winter mulch)
Once rare and now more available this aristocrat of the grape hyacinths has a sweet spicy fragrance from butter yellow 8" spikes. Clump forming. Cool seed pods too.
