Large, densely hairy, rich velvety green leaves identify this open-growing 6-8' shrub along with soft-lavender late summer flower heads; doing best in shade, it makes a decorative feature mixed with Rhododendrons. S-PSh/M
H. SARGENTIANA - is a beautiful large growing (6’-8’) hydrangea that is rarely grown. Occasionally we see H. aspera macrophylla tagged as a sargentiana. But, they are different. The leaves of H. sargentiana are very hairy and broad. The flowers are lavender in summer. Only a few available.
A crowd pleaser at Dancing Oaks, this Hydrangea has large velvety leaves, beautiful pink buds and blue-mauve lace-cap flowers July - September. It takes more sun than we imagined! Native to dense forest and moist open areas in central China. Sumptuous. 8' x 8' Minimum temperature: 0 °F
Literally, a giant amongst the hydrangeas. We call this gaunt leggy plant the hydrangea from Mars and is a family favorite from Oregon to Ohio. Magnificent fuzzy, blue-green leaves with a white lacecap type of bloom which spans 8 inches across. The dome shaped bloom will have florescent purple fertile flowers that radiate color in the summer. This is a very unique hydrangea and a must have for the serious collector. Sargentiana can serve as an outstanding backdrop for other blooming hydrangeas but needs afternoon shade to do well. Leave it some room and it won't disappoint.
With large velvety dark green leaves and a lavender lacecap that will last all summer (as long as it is in a shady location), this large (to 7') tree-like shrub is marvelous in the landscape.
Pale purple to white lacecap bloom spans 5-8 inches. Peeling bark, deciduous, Regular water. Zones 7-9
