Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Euphorbia Blackbird has been and remains one of the best burgundy-black-leaved spurges for the garden. The burgundy tone differs from other cultivars in being a cool black -- rather than a warm burgundy or maroon -- though the new foliage is tinted red. The flower heads are comprised of dark burgundy-black bracts and contrasting yellow flowers on red stems. Tolerant of part shade but the best leaf colour is produced in full sun. Use at the front or middle of the border, in rock gardens and in containers. Flowering lasts for months from early spring to early summer. Cut back each flowering stalk to the base when the bracts begin to whither. Remember: the stems that have not flowered yet will be your flowers for next spring. Deer and rabbit resistant. Drought tolerant. Cultivar name: 'Nothowlee'.
The deep-maroon (almost black in sun!) foliage of this 20-24" evergreen mounder is lovely in winter containers, as a background for spring bulbs AND with its March-May lime-green flowers. S/M-D/GDr PPAF
Zn 6. Yellow bracts. Deep purple foliage.
Euphorbia 'Blackbird' with it's dark purple tinted foliage, sets off brighter hues nearby. We have this in a bed with gravelly soil close to our house, and it has wintered over beautifully for the past 2 years. Flowering bracts will form on the previous season's growth, providing bright yellow green contrast to the dark purple leaves. Plants grow 18" tall and wide. Also a really good choice for containers as it looks great all season long!
New red foliage turns purple black as it matures. This sets the stage for a dynamic contrast between the foliage and the yellow green spring flowers. 18" tall and wide.
