Travel to different regions inevitably means discovering new-to-me plants (like a Loquat in Berkeley, and a Schefflera in San Diego). A recent vacation “lunch stop” in Carpenteria, California – along with a brief detour to take in the ocean view – lead to a parking lot full of trees with these amazing blooms…
Most of them were up high, where I couldn’t get a good photo. Thankfully there was this one tree with an odd burst of blooms at easy camera level.
The leaves were vaguely oak-ish.
Anyone care to venture a guess, or even better a solid ID?
And another of the interesting sun-shaped flower.
Just for fun a bonus photo of a windswept tree on the beach. This one I’m not so concerned about identifying, but just appreciating it’s character.
